'I love it when a child comes up to me with a sparkle in their eye and says, Can I try.... or Can I add.... That's creativity, when they start thinking outside the box and take a chance.' Para La Russa
Para La Russa (Mrs. La Russa) loves working with children, and has done so for more than 10 years. She’s at her happiest in the art room working with the kids. They work well together and always have fun!
After receiving her degree in Business Management, Para found herself working in the ‘.com’ world for a number of years before migrating to the bright lights of the movie industry. She worked for the CEO of DreamWorks Animation SKG, the animation studio that created movies such as Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, How to Train Your Dragon and Madagascar. After becoming a mother to two beautiful, talented girls (now aged 11 and 17 ), her career objectives changed.
Para has many years of experience with art and design. She first grabbed a paint brush at the age of two, and hasn’t put it down since. Over the years she dabbled in web design, logos, e-greeting cards, invitations, business cards, and stationery. She is currently writing and illustrating a children’s book series. Art is a passion that runs through her veins; her grandmother, also an art teacher, gave Para the opportunity to learn first-hand how to create, and how to inspire others to do the same.
Over the past 5 years, Para has enjoyed being a full-time art teacher in the Burlingame school district. She taught a school-wide art enrichment program that she created for 1000+ students from kindergarten through fifth grade at Washington and Lincoln Elementary School. She currently runs multiple after-school art programs, and works with children of all levels of experience, including ones with special needs.
Para enjoys helping in the local community and volunteers for many different charities and fundraisers for schools and corporate events. She loves making collaborative pieces to donate and help art reach the ones that truly need it. Para is an active member of the National Art Education Foundation and of the California Art Education Association.
She enjoys volunteering her time to create murals and participate in local school fundraisers, with the goal of improving the community and bringing the world of art to all.
